Describe it…
- There was a shooting between police officer and a criminal. - Such things do not often reported by the news. The people in Oakland, however, will be able to know that news by using the Internet.
The mayor of Oakland looks at this Internet site. He is promoting this project – although it costs quarter million dollars. From this project, people and police can find out about the crimes and they can do something to the criminals – for example, stop it.
The marks on this map show the kinds of the criminal. For example, a red star is for a homicide. A green star is for assault. The red circles are for armed robbery. A light green star is for a forcible rape. An orange circle stands for the child is for abuse. The purple triangles are car thefts.
You can get more facts by clicking the maps, and you can also read the police report. This is powerful information because you can decide not to buy a house in the neighborhood or to make the neighborhood safe. The police say that they want to work as partners to make it safer for all. The major says the whole plan is to work with the police to fight crime.
Report what you thought or how you felt about it. Was it easy for you to do? Did you have any frustrations or feelings of satisfaction?
I think it is good to know about the safety of the neighbors, but I can’t understand why doing this is useful for decreasing the numbers of the crimes.
I had some trouble typing it, but otherwise it was easy.
