Special Lecuture
Today,(10/28), there was a special lecture given by professor Robert Courchêne, professor at University of Ottawa. It was about "Multicultural and Anti-racizm Education."
Firstly, Culture is a system for differentiating between in-group and out-group people. Also, culture is kind of like a museum. The reason is because culture changes. Than, what makes up culture? the things that makes up cultures are, Values and beliefs,Traditions and riturals, History, Stories and myths, Heroes and heroines, and Behaviour norms. However, what makes difference and problems between cultures? The things which makes difference between cultures are, Low and high context,Perceptions of time and space,Nature of hierarchies,Workplace, family, peer group, sport,Nature of change,Gender roles,Definitions of success,Notion of authority,Humour,Physical touch,Flirting vs. harassment,Silence, and The individual and the group.
So why do we need to know about multi-culture? Canada, forexample, there are three kinds of founding peoples, difference in cultural frameworks, change of immigration patterns, new sources of immigrants to Canada, existence of racism: - that is blatant and latent - and conflicting views on multiculturalism and racism.
There is also problems of stereotypes. Stereotype is , for example, kind of thinking like "All Japanese are good at math." even though they aren't.
Then how can we make up with these problem? One of the way is to read a simmilar story of each culture, and know about the dfferences in each story. For example, Cinderella.
Also, the Japanese Cinderella story is called "Hachi-Kazuki".

Niagara - An Curried-Rice Restaurant -
This time, I'll introduce my favorite restaurant.
.JPG)
It is called "Niagara", a curried-rice restaurant - it is actually a cafe - near the Yutenji station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line. However, it is not famous by its menu, but by its atmosphere.
As the owner of this cafe is fond of train - or "Japanese-style-trainspotter" - He owns a lot of things related to the trains. He even owns wheels of a steam locomotive.

↑This is the one he owns.

By the way, the taste of their curry is home-made-style. So if you want to have the home-made-style curry, I'll recommend this shop.

Nana Himemiya
Some of you might noticed that there is a new link says "Nana Himemiya's Blog".
But who is Nana Himemiya? This time, I'll explain about that person.
Nana Himemiya is a mascot character of Tobu Railways Costomer Center. She is from Utsunomiya, and her hobby is to travel along the Tobu line.
It is rare that to use animation-kind illustration as a mascot character. That is why she is renown to many Japnese hard-core fans which most of the people calls otaku.

IE-3 W "Should Hunting Be Banned?"(1st)
Should Hunting Be Banned?
Today, there are lots of opinions about hunting animals. For example, some says people shouldn’t hunt animals because to protect animals. Or, there is an opinion which says people are harming nature because of the things which are used in hunting - for example, metals used in bullets - gives bad effect to the nature. Or, they think that hunting is a way to get weapons easily, and these weapons cause accidents such as murder. But, hunting helps people’s life in many ways, from the Stone Age to Today. As example, most people eat a lot of kinds of meats – pork, beef, chicken, fishes, and etc – as a meal. Also, people use oils of animals when people make foods. Or, people use fur of animals in what peoples wear. Also, there are a lot of things which is made from leathers. Should hunting really have to be banned? As written on this paper, hunting helps people life. At present, hunting should not be banned, but hunters should know some about dangerous part of hunting.
Many things have good points and bad points, and so do hunting. Firstly, some hunters use their hunting tools not for hunting but as to kill people. On December 14, 2007, a hunter in Sasebo, Nagasaki killed two people and injured six by using his gun. This kind of accident – a people who got gun legally uses gun for killing people – did not happened in Japan before that, and because this accident was very shocking, some people says that hunting should be banned.
Next, metals - especially lead - used in the bullets harm nature. For example, hunters use bullets that are made of lead when they hunt deer. Usually, that won’t be a problem. But it becomes problem when they leave the part that the bullets hit at the hunting place. If birds eat that place, they –especially eagle –gets lead poisoning.
Third thing is the problem about protecting animals. If the human race kills animals more than it born, that animal, when the worst thing happens, it will die out. Dying out is the worst thing, but it is true that nature balance will be damaged.
There are good parts about hunting, however. For example, some animals – such as bears and deer ― eat farm products. Therefore, foods that humans eat are damaged. To protect from animals hunting is one of the way.
Secondly, some animals harm a human being itself. Bears are the good example. To protect people from these kinds of animals, one way is to hunt and make the number of these animals fewer.
Also, people get a lot of things from the animals. For example, humans eat meats – pork, beef, chicken, fish etc – as a meal. Plus, their fur is used in what humans wear, and shoes are made of their leather.
Taking these reasons to consideration, it is bad to ban hunting. However, hunters must know the dangerous part of hunting such as written on this paper. For example, gun is a weapon, so if hunters use their guns in a bad way, they can kill people, too. Also, people should know that man-made things such as bullets can change the nature rapidly.

Construction!

There is a construction across my house. They are building houses. It is too noisy! Fortunately, they aren't doing work today, and therefore, I am spending quiet afternoon.
But why are they doing it at this time? In my hometown, late October is snow season and they don't built houses useually. Is this common in this area? Please comment about that.

The Words that moved my heart-3
Today's words are "Butterflys flys away to another flower when they are finshed with that flower." This was also said by the same person whom I introduced in "The Words that moved my heart-2".
Sometimes, I am fettered by memories of the past. However, when I got into that situation, I always remind of these words. These words gives hope to me.
By the way, today used to be one of the Japanese holiday Taiiku-no-Hi, but does somebody remember when it changed? If you do, please let me know.
See you soon!

☆Kakkie's Radio Hour☆ 1-1
At one of my favorite blog, - it is written in Japanese, though - the blogger is doing kind of like a radio program with no voice and using songs from youtube. It was very interesting to me, so this time, I'm doing it on my blog. Unfortunately, I don't know western songs so many. That is why I'll play Japanese songs(Japanimation songs and game songs) and some western songs in the opening jingle this week, but if you want to request western songs, that will be great!

The Words That Moved My Heart
I think most people has words which moved your heart. From today, I want to introduce some of it.
Today's words are from my favorite movie that I watched in my Korean class. It is like this. " To forgive is to make a room in your heart."
We think that it is difficult to forgive someone, including myself. But when I heard this word for the first time, I thought that to forgive someone isn't a hard thing.
What is your words that moved your heart? Please let me know in your comments.
